I had a conversation today with my friend “D”, that really made me stop and think about how important it is to keep working on myself and building my communication and leadership skills.
“D”, a friend from my church, spoke from the pulpit about the health of our church and the importance of financial commitment and our pledge drive. He shared his experience about when he and his wife were first approached about pledging five years ago.
His remarks were direct, honest and revealing. What really struck me was his courage in directly stating his feelings and thoughts.
I try to be a leader in everything I do. I try to lead by example, by being the best at what I do. In building my home business, that means having the most enrollments, the most leaders and so forth.
What I learned from “D”, however, was I need to keep “sharpening my saw”. In other words, I need to find and participate in more groups, activities and situations where I can take actions that are in alignment with my values and beliefs.
I am reminded of a recent conference call with one of the leaders in my company. He said that as leaders we have a moral and ethical obligation to tell the truth and to help our new business partners get started correctly. He said so many people have stopped dreaming that they feel they will never get ahead or achieve the great life they desire.
Do you want to be a better leader? Do you believe that the reason for accomplishing a goal is what it will make of you as a person? Do you read? Keep a journal? What if it had been me speaking from the pulpit about what I believe?
Success in network marketing has far more to do with your why, belief and relationships than anything else. Becoming a leader requires constant vigilance, study and self-improvement. I have seen so many people fail in network marketing because they lacked and never developed the listening, networking and leadership skills required to attract people to them.
